Kraków - Wieliczka

  • The tour is available in Polish, English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian

  • The assembly point is the Daniłowicz Shaft, which the tourists then use to go down into the salt underground. Tours with Polish-speaking guides, as well as with guides speaking languages other than Polish take place at designated times, subject to the availability of tickets on-line.

  • The route includes approx. 800 stairs, 380 of which are at the start. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing according to the conditions on the route. The temperature underground falls within the range of 17–18ºC.

  • You can buy tickets:
    • at the Mine’s website
    • at the ticket machine located at the entrance to the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine, on the opposite side to the Daniłowicz shaft
    • at the ticket office in the Daniłowicz Shaft, Daniłowicza 10, Wieliczka (provided there are tickets available, which were not purchased on-line)

    The ticket also entitles you to visit the underground exhibition of the Cracow Saltworks Museum.

  • Only a small carry-on luggage (with maximum dimensions of 20x20x35 cm) is allowed during the tour of the Mine. You may leave any larger luggage at our automated luggage lockers; however, please keep in mind that the number of lockers and their size are limited, which means that the availability of a suitable luggage locker cannot be guaranteed. Luggage storage is available free of charge during touring hours. When going for a tour of the mine, try your best to avoid taking large luggage and baby strollers with you, as the mine lacks the appropriate storage facilities to keep them for you.

  • On the Tourist Route, you can relax and dine in designated locations. Karczma Górnicza, located 125 metres underground, serves Polish cuisine as well as hot and cold beverages.

    At Bistro Posolone, located on the surface, right next to the Daniłowicz Shaft, you can choose from a wide range of salads, pizzas, burgers, pasta, as well as drink delicious coffee.

    You can eat a meal before or after your tour at the Grand Sal**** Hotel restaurant.


  • Before starting the tour, you can use the toilets, which are located right next to the Daniłowicz Shaft. Toilets are also available underground in two locations on the tour.

  • The ATMs can be found on the premises of the Mine, near the Daniłowicz Shaft.
    All catering and retail outlets in the Mine accept card payments.
  • Wieliczka is open to children of all ages. Moreover, children under 4 years of age are entitled to free admission. We have also prepared facilities for families visiting Wieliczka: a changing table and special chairs in Karczma Górnicza. Due to the large number of stairs in the Mine, the use of strollers is not recommended.

Getting to the Mine by coach or car

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine is located 10 km south-east of Krakow city centre, near the exit from the A4 motorway at the Kraków Wieliczka junction.
